My Bird of Happiness is inspired by the graceful crane, a bird that has symbolised joy, longevity and spiritual transcendence across cultures for thousands of years. The sculpture also echoes the elegant form of the Strelitzia, or crane flower, whose striking silhouette informed its flowing lines. From ancient Egyptian reliefs and Greek mythology to the rich artistic traditions of China and Japan, the crane has long represented hope, harmony and the connection between the earthly and the divine. In Chinese philosophy it embodies happiness, light and immortality, while in Japanese Buddhism it is revered as a bringer of good fortune and long life. I hope to capture the crane's timeless symbolism by creating a sculpture that celebrates optimism, freedom and the enduring pursuit of happiness.
