This is a rare and tiny primrose discovered in China by Joseph Hooker in the 19th Century. I painted it to celebrate Joseph Hooker’s centenary celebration in 2017 and it was exhibited alongside works by other botanical artists at a Gallery in Halesworth, Hooker’s home. It was very difficult to obtain material from which to work and in the end I contacted the British Primula Society, who had organised a botanical tour in China some years before; luckily some of their members had studied and photographed my plant so I was able to work from their archives!
