"As with much of my work, Crescent is a heavily influenced and inspired by the works of Hepworth and Gabo. With Hepworth, one of the greatest achievements of her sculptures was to create such beautiful forms, that were essentially very minimal and simple, but at the same time radiate such beauty and presence.

I wanted to explore this quality, combining strung wire with a really minimal curved metal form, to see if the resulting sculpture could achieve the same kind of aesthetic appeal and presence. I was extremely satisfied with the outcome and think that the combined materials and the way they were applied worked perfectly.

The greatest challenge of this sculpture was having the bronze rolled into a really smooth and consistent curve, which was absolutely essential for the sculpture to work. This required a metal smith with great experience using very large power rollers, which are extremely challenging to use to create such a precise and delicate curve".
