‘Nocturne’ captures the quiet authority of the tawny owl at rest, a
species long associated with dusk, woodland edges, and the unseen rhythms of
the night. Perched and alert, the owl’s head turned slightly, as if listening
rather than watching, drawing attention to the heightened awareness that
defines nocturnal life.

The sculpture is created
through a combination of traditional sculptural processes and intricate
handwork. The underlying form is sculpted and moulded, with the base and branch
cast in cold-cast bronze. Over this framework, each feather is individually hand-painted,
cut, and layered from archival paper. This process allows for a softness of
surface and a sharpness of edge that echo the owl’s plumage.

Nocturne is not a moment of action, but of attention, a pause within the
darkness where form, texture, and silence converge. It invites the viewer to
slow down, to share the owl’s stillness, and to consider the beauty of what is
usually glimpsed only briefly, at the edges of light.
