Botanical artist Penny will be returning to the gallery demonstrating her cut paper collage work on Wednesday 18th October 10.30 am - 3.30 pm.
Penny works in cut paper collage and creates images that are both botanically accurate and have strong visual appeal. She starts with careful observation of the subject plant, making sketches, colour notes and recording the rhythm and energy of the growing plant. She assembles the image, cutting and layering plain papers in a complex, subtle way to achieve an effect reminiscent of 1930s silk screen prints, but with strong contemporary appeal. The natural world and particularly the glorious Dorset countryside are a constant source of inspiration which she loves to share.
Come along and watch her cut, paint and assemble the pieces, gradually building up the composition until the flowers and plants spring into life.
