We're delighted to be welcoming Penny back to the gallery, for another fascinating demonstration of her cut paper collage work.
Penny creates images that are both botanically accurate and have strong visual appeal. Staring with careful observation of the subject plant, she makes sketches, colour notes and records the rhythm and energy of the growing plant. She assembles the image, cutting and layering plain papers in a complex, subtle way to achieve an effect reminiscent of 1930s silk screen prints, but with strong contemporary appeal. The natural world and particularly the glorious Dorset countryside are a constant source of inspiration which she loves to share.
Come along and watch her cut, paint and assemble the pieces, gradually building up the composition until the flowers and plants spring into life.
