Cut Paper Collage Demonstration by Penny Brown
The Gallery is delighted to be welcoming back Penny Brown to demonstrate her cut paper collage technique.
Penny works in collage to create images that are both botanically accurate and have strong visual appeal. She starts with careful observation of the subject plant, making sketches, colour notes and recording the rhythm and energy of the growing plant. She often includes buds and seedheads as well as full blooms to give an impression of the life cycle of the plant. The natural world and particularly the glorious Dorset countryside are a constant source of inspiration which she loves to share. Her most recent work explores Dorset landscapes in collage, sometimes including native wildflowers but often just focusing on the rich contrasting colours and shapes of the marvellous countryside around us.
Come along and watch Penny in action, cutting, painting and assembling, gradually building up the composition until the landscapes and plants become vividly three dimensional - a process that requires plenty of patience!
All welcome for this free demonstration in the gallery, taking place during our Summer Show group exhibition, which closes on Saturday 26th September.
