When I designed the Chain Gang, I wanted to make a really bold linocut image. Matisse is a great inspiration to me, and I wanted this work to have the same immediacy as one of his paper cut outs. The idea was to communicate the energy and dynamism of road cycling in just 3 colours. The linocut was made using the multi-block technique (a block for each colour). The original colour way for this print was selected by Norman Ackroyd RA for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2015, with the edition of 75 selling out on the Private View evening. This second colour way is almost also sold out, and I won't be printing anymore after this one!
