Sasha Constable

Sasha Constable was born in 1970 in to an artistic family with a long line of 'Constable' artists dating back to her famous ancestor, the quintessential British landscape painter, John Constable (1776-1837).

In 1992 Sasha completed a Sculpture degree at Wimbledon School of Art where she specialised in stone carving and her love for relief printmaking began.  These two mediums have been a constant in her varied journey in the art sector as an art teacher, curator, mentor, art projector coordinator and artist.  Seventeen of her adult years were spent living and working in Cambodia where its complex culture and history had a deeply formative effect on her development as an artist.

Since moving back to the UK in 2018 Sasha has been experimenting with different types of stone (predominantly alabaster and soapstone) using a direct carving technique. She is also creating limited edition bronzes cast from some of her smaller Portland stone carvings, which has allowed her to try different coloured patinas.

The sculptures typically have a smooth sensuous surface quality with sharp lines and angled planes.  Her subject matter ranges widely from semi-figurative to abstraction to political satire.  Her artwork is held  in private collections around the world, including the Cambodian Royal Families Art collection and the British Embassy in Phnom Penh.
