Thomas Joynes follows a passion for creating form based abstract sculpture which responds to aesthetics and fractals within nature. Exploring such principles as Fibonacci led to an understanding that the stunningly beautiful yet often simple laws that nature follow, result in what could most closely be described as perfection within our environment and are synonymous with aesthetic beauty, balance and perfection.
Thomas graduated from the Norwich School of Art in 2005 and has since set up his practice as a sculptor in Norwich. Joynes works primarily to commission, undertaking projects for private, corporate and public clients both in the UK and to a increasingly international audience.
The style he has developed continues a strong tradition of depicting nature and fractals in art and is influenced by sculptors such as Gabo, Brancusi, Arp, Moore and Hepworth. Thomas worked freelance as assistant to Angela Connor FRBS after graduating university and was delighted to later discover that Angela trained in the St Ives studio of Dame Barbara Hapworth and assisted on Hepworth's 'Single Form' for the UN.
Over the past 10 years, Joynes has found his talents in demand, working often with architects, design firms and art consultancies worldwide. The geometric nature of his designs means that much of his work is easily customised to meet the bespoke needs of many designers and their clients. Offering the opportunity to re-scale size or change colour, finish or materials.
Recent commissions of note that Thomas has undertaken include a poolside feature for the new Crown Sydney hotel, two works for the deck of the new 'Spirit Of Adventure' cruise liner , a large bronze for the Crown Estate in St James's London, a three metre high bronze sculpture at Austin Road Station - Hong Kong, and the design of a large scale contemporary sundial for Chelmer Housing Partnership, Essex.
