The title Geranos intrigued me because it embodies two seemingly different ideas within a single word. In ancient Greek, geranos means both "crane", the bird admired for its grace, intelligence and ordered flight, and the mechanical crane, one of the earliest inventions that enabled mankind to lift, build and create. This duality, where nature and human ingenuity meet, became the inspiration for the sculpture.

The crane has long been admired for its wisdom, vigilance and sense of order. Ancient Greek writers observed its remarkable migrations, disciplined V-shaped formations and unwavering awareness of its surroundings, seeing the bird as a symbol of foresight and harmony. Homer described cranes in the Iliad as powerful heralds of the changing seasons, reinforcing their place within both mythology and the natural world.

In Geranos, I wanted to explore the relationship between the elegance of nature and the inventiveness of mankind. For me, Geranos is a celebration of humanity's enduring desire to learn from nature, transforming observation into innovation while never losing sight of the beauty from which it began.
